This is a useful course. It's clear, succinct, and covers a fair bit of ground with a range of content approaches and samples of how they are used in different contexts. Supplementary materials provide useful insights into the SME and big business markets.

I enjoyed the templates and different types of samples. Appreciate the bonus materials too. Clear presentation and easy to complete are big plusses.

Thanks very much! I've enjoyed this course and it's given me the confidence to write a lot more short stories and enter competitions over the past year - I won one and have been listed in others!

Angela gives great feedback and always finds extra information that is helpful. Her advice is practical and straight-forward. Brilliant.

I enjoyed the weekly lessons and learning additional skills about writing. I picked up a lot of things to look out for in my own writing by reading others and this will be helpful.

Novel Writing Essentials is the perfect follow on from Creative Writing Stage 1 and will take your writing to the next level.

I knew I needed some expert advice/teaching on planning, and was very excited at the chance to learn from the wonderful Kate Forsyth! So much information, but presented so clearly and with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. A true masterclass!

Kate is so knowledgeable, approachable and friendly and so generous in the sharing of her own methods and processes.

I enjoyed the breadth of what was offered; so much research and knowledge summarised and refined into two sessions, so students benefitted from years of work and experience without having to spend those years ourselves before we could get started.

I had always struggled with the idea of planning a story as it felt a bit constrictive and contrived; but having hit roadblocks with my story I realised that my organic, free-range writing style was not the only way, and in fact could not get me all the way to a finished, rich and well-constructed novel. But I couldn't work out where to start with how to plan!

I learned that the plan can be just as inspired as the story itself, and that knowing where the story was headed could actually make the writing process more exciting, not less.

Whatever the style, genre or purpose of your writing, no matter what issues you face, the AWC has a course to make your writing better, devised and facilitated by experts who want to see you succeed.

I enjoyed the self-paced nature of the course, the examples and the insights from authors. It's made me even more determined to write and given me the confidence to just do it.

I think writing non-fiction is far more formulaic than I realised. The course breaks the 'formula' into bite-sized categories or elements that somehow make the whole seem more achievable.

AWC courses are a worthwhile investment in you and your passion for writing; they are comprehensive, practical, and affordable.

It is an incredible course to do, especially amidst a busy life schedule. Answered all the questions of a first time writer.

Don't think about it, just do it.

It was a great refresher and updated some of my old conventional practices. The tutor was a very clear communicator and made the course interesting while moving through efficiently.

I enjoyed the clarification of some concepts such as active and passive voice and commonly misused words.

It was an accessible and practical course. It has made me think more about my writing style and I'm keen to sharpen my writing from now on.

I want to learn to write romance. I was particularly drawn to this course because I wanted to learn how to write romantic elements in my cosy murder mystery as a sub-plot, and it has really helped me to do that.

I enjoyed all of this course and I'll be coming back to re-learn as I keep writing forward. I think I really enjoyed the exercises that solidify the learnings, and the interviews with successful romance writers too. I also enjoyed the depth of knowledge provided, as well as the questions asked that got me thinking deeply about my characters, their pasts and how that affects them in the present, and I especially appreciated learning the difference between what is romance and what are romantic elements. That definition was enormously helpful.

My understanding of romance is clearer than it has ever been. I've started using the handouts to learn about my cosy murder mystery characters who are also love interests. I've plotted my story and included romantic elements so I don't forget them as I write forward. This has been the first time I've ever felt like I'll actually be able to write a story with romantic elements that work.

I think the best aha moment was the realisation that I can do this. With the knowledge and guidance of AWC in my writer's toolbox, I feel equipped to make my dream of writing commercial/publishable romance fiction come true.

This course was brilliant! It provides clarity on what is and is not romance, and exactly how to write a story that includes romantic elements as well as how to write a romance that meets a romance reader's expectations. If you want to write romance and you're not sure where to start, do this course!

Michelle was very good and clearly explained each of the sections in the course. Updating old knowledge to current conventions was valuable.

It has made me mindful of my writing and I'm looking forward to putting into practice the editing skills that I learned.

It covers a lot of valuable information in two sessions, which was time well spent.

Pam is ace. She is so calm and kind and she took my intro comments and gave me pointed feedback that was useful and easy to digest.

I enjoyed the deadlines to submit work. It helped me overcome my procrastination or letting life get in the way.

It helped me establish a new creative writing routine post-uni. Indeed, I considered Write Your Novel as a remedial course! Due to university commitments, I hadn’t been able to work creatively and focus on my novels for three years.

I established a good writing technique or routine by pushing myself to write toward a deadline. After working from home for three years, I understood I couldn't be creatively productive there.

I took the train to the library on the weekend, aiming to get there by the 10am opening time. I could sometimes use my phone to write on the train if I felt up to it. At the library, I could put in 1.5 hours of writing. For a lunch break, I would walk to a cafe, and while waiting for food, I could sometimes put down some more words. Afterwards, if I felt up to it, I would return to a library to write or do a creative nourishment activity (such as a movie). Had I seen a movie, the train ride home was another space and time to get some more writing done.

This seems indulgent, expensive and fattening! But making time for myself to work on my novels and do creative things was wonderful for my writing progress *and* mental health. This course helped me to develop and understand my writing needs.

As well as being extremely experienced and articulate, Kate was a great teacher as she took the time to check in with us, answer any questions and has a very approachable manner. Her delivery was very clear.

I enjoyed learning the process of plotting a novel and planning techniques. I also enjoyed the technical info about the structure of a novel, types of plots and characters.

I'm going to review my current manuscript and check it against the five points in a plot, and make sure they are in the right place for each POV character. I'm also keen to rework my one-page synopsis based on the structure Kate showed us. Also when I start my second manuscript later this year I'll refer to her planning structure.

Great courses and community. You'll find something that suits your needs and your learning preference.

Bernadette was very professional, engaging and encouraging. She always had a wonderful ability of reassuring good work while providing feedback to further improve your work.

I enjoyed the assignments. They were a great way to practice and reinforce what was being learnt.

I've developed more confidence in my writing. I also feel like I have a safety-net now - if I'm stuck, I can refer back to what I learnt and the different tools provided which is so helpful.

The course gives you real, usable and transferable tools for writing.

Thank you!

I enrolled in this course because I have been writing consistently without structure and the writing is a dog's breakfast!

Kate Forsyth is very engaging and knowledgeable. She was experienced, patient, and completely immersed in the world of creative writing.

The course was a delight. The salient points were condensed in a practical way without being boring. It has assisted me to pinpoint exactly why my writing is a dog's breakfast and given me the tools to start fixing the problems.

If you are time poor and need to boost your creative writing it is exceptionally good value for time and money.

Thank you for making this course accessible to me by doing it online.

I am writing more newsletters, business correspondence and creating scientific/educational resources and wanted to improve my plain English skills.

The course was well presented with good examples for each rule and tip. It was easy to understand and the examples gave the rules context. I also liked the opportunity to have my work reviewed.

I have a good reference or key grammar rules now as well as the 11 golden rules. Makes thinking about writing in a professional manner more accessible.

This is a great foundation for fiction writers. It was easy to understand and was delivered in short and to the point videos.

As a reformed comma splice offender, I will no longer abuse the comma key on my laptop. Prepare full stop, ellipses and em dash: you're up!

The course offers a solid foundation of punctuation and grammar for fiction writers across all genres.

Kate was wonderful. She was so knowledgeable and gave such great advice. She made me think of things in structure that I had never given thought to before.

I enjoyed how well put together the course was, and how Kate married artwork with her teachings.

Part way through the first night of the course wheels started turning in my head and I realised where I want the narrative to go in the second book of my trilogy. This is something I had been struggling with.

I liked the idea of laying a foundation stone upon which to build my writing dreams. I have always wanted to write but needed help to start.

Angela was terrific. I imagine it is hard in such a short space of time and only really touching the tip of the iceberg in regard to the craft of writing to provide guidance and direction. Angela nailed it! I found the feedback encouraging, helpful and well delivered. It would be easy to crush the dreams of a new and inexperienced writer - the course and Angela were dream facilitators not crushers.

It is easy to dream about being a writer but hard to start to be one. This course helps to start. The content was excellent and the pace of the course was very achievable. It ignited the flame now I need to keep it burning.

The Australian Writers' Centre offers something for every writer at every stage of their writing so if you need help it is a good place to look for that help.

The information was specific, clearly written and spoken, and has helped a great deal with my real estate writing confidence.

I now get paid for writing real estate copy.

The AWC offers writing courses which ensure you finish as a trained writer when you have finished. And people in the business respect graduates of these courses. Even if you do no other training, the AWC can offer you all that you need to succeed as a writer in any field.

Bernadette was excellent. I didn't realise until I was doing the course that she was the author of a book I had read, 'How to Build an Online Business'. So I was delighted! Great to have her personally give feedback on our work.

The personal feedback on our assignments was the most enjoyable part.

I now think about active sentences when I write. Also, how to grab attention from the outset. Lots of tips and tricks I will continue to use.

Thank you very much! Really enjoyed it. Great course, highly recommended.

The module delivery was very well done and easy to listen to and follow. The online tutor was very supportive and encouraging and it gave me more confidence to write.

I enjoyed all aspects of the course.

I now believe that writing is a skill that can be developed rather than a talent that someone might possess. All writers have some self-doubt in their ability to be able to write something that others might want to read; it's not just me!

Thanks for the great course. Money well spent.
