What’s it like to learn with AWC?
Each year, thousands of students just like you achieve their writing goals through our courses and world-class presenters. Here they share how their new-found skills and confidence enriched their life.
The course materials are very good. The tutor was professional and insightful. The comments really helped.
I have enjoyed the assignments and I felt that they have helped develop my writing skills.
Creative Writing Stage 1 is comprehensive and provided excellent resources and feedback on the assignments.
For many years, I had a desire to write picture books but didn't commit to it. I have published a novel for adults, with another on the way, but wasn't sure I could transition to writing for children. I felt I needed education specifically in writing picture books.
Margaret was a great tutor. She provided detailed feedback in a way that made me feel excited to revise my work. She has a keen eye for story and the common pitfalls of writing for picture books.
I feel confident - this is something I believe I can do successfully.
I'm planning to do the full suite of 'Write Your Novel' courses with AWC over the next year or so, and this course seemed to be the right starting point.
I've enjoyed the weekly deadlines, and the bonus exercises were great. Victoria seems to be lovely and has given very insightful feedback via the weekly videos.
It solidified a lot of things I have been learning/researching myself over the past year. Great foundational course.
The more I have learned through the suite of copywriting courses I have undertaken, the more I have realised how much more I need to learn about. SEO was a key aspect that, to be honest, I didn't even know about at all! So I put this course on my 'essentials' to do list.
I am an experienced writer but I knew I was naive about the google world and how and why it works - so yes I was concerned about how I would go with this course.
Very comprehensive - so much great information and clever practical strategies covered and generously shared.
Bernadette is a delightful and very knowledgeable tutor - she shares her experience and observations generously and her feedback combines insight, suggestions and encouragement.
I enjoy the natural approachable presentation of the course and that this is backed up with comprehensive resources that I can return to and double check as I grow my knowledge and practice.
I now look at my google searching and the content of results with an informed and critical eye - a fascinating additional view of what works and why. AND I analyse what I can take from it and how I could apply it (and be alert to the tension between persuasion and manipulation we all face every day!)
The AWC copywriting courses have cut out any waffle, mystification and distractions and deliver what you really need to know with practical resources and strategies to draw on, apply now and succeed 'your way'.
Bernadette was great - an easy, confident speaker. Kept the videos short and to the point. Like Mark, her feedback was very positive.
I enjoyed the assignments - putting what I had learned into action.
Enjoyed learning about some of the SEO tools that can be used to check out how well a website or webpage is ranking. It has taught me more about the factors that are at work with Google rankings, key words etc.
The AWC courses are jam-packed with useful, easy-to-digest information that provide a solid foundation to build a copywriting business. I thoroughly enjoyed Copywriting Essentials and SEO Copywriting. Worth the price.
I loved Pamela's systematic approach to unpacking what each element is and how to use it as well as including the often overlooked but important grammatical aspects. It really highlighted to me where I was going wrong.
I have been stuck with my story - I have a story which I believe is good but have been really struggling with HOW to tell it. This course has inspired me to do more courses and focus on the craft - it has reignited my hope that I can progress.
I was attracted to this course mainly because I knew Nat would have a variety of amazing ideas and I'm planning on presenting in schools in the next year or so.
I love that Nat and Pamela planned and Nat presented a range of activities, often with examples, for the different comfort levels of participants.
I feel a lot more confident in navigating presentations and everything around getting and running them, plus getting or being reminded of a few handy industry insights too.
AWC courses are always professional and extensive :)
I am about 2/3 through my first draft of a novel and knew I needed to make the climax sing.
I like the mix of learning formats with video, worksheets and Q&A.
It helped me pull together all the elements I knew I needed to cover, but gave me the map to do it better.
It was simple, but just reminding me to answer the questions asked throughout the novel was my aha moment.
If you want to be a better writer, sign up for an AWC course (or three)!
It's really exceptional. It pulls a person to bits then invites a reconstruction.
Kate's a great presenter. The examples and images she selected are astounding.
The exercises helped me to see my writing in a new light.
I'm in the middle of writing a fiction. Sometimes I slow down and stop. I hoped this course would help me to stay on track and give me some new creative ideas.
The depth of exploration into creativity far exceeded my expectations. Also, Kate is an inspiring presenter who exudes joy and positivity throughout.
There was something different in every lesson; I just kept learning something new.
Technical detail beautifully explained. No judgement of what you write about or whether or not you're a good writer. Kate's message was that if you need to write, then you must write, which was great to hear from a published author. Journal writing challenges were fantastic.
Pamela was her usual generous self. The seminar encouraged me to get back writing again.
AWC is not just a good training centre; the teachers are very gentle with our fragile egos. The first time you put your neck on the line like this it is helpful not just to have guidance, we need encouragement, too. And AWC is very open to different kinds (genres, style of grammar, vocabulary) of writing, which is compulsory today.
Thank you, Pamela.
I now know and understand the difference between the two. How to use them in context and that grammar matters!
Professional team of industry experts; well-planned and presented courses; welcoming and encouraging of its students.
An inspiring and enlightening course.
I have used the suggested writing prompts for memoir writing each week and told others about the course.
I like that Pamela answered questions openly, without judgement and gave more than was expected.
It just made me feel that, one way or another, I will have my book/books published and that AWC will be a big part of that. It gave me confidence.
AWC courses are encouraging, clear and approachable and mostly self-paced.
I enjoyed Kate's engaging manner and enthusiasm. Well structured. Loved the references to poetry and art. Loved Kate's personal stories.
I just loved it. It was so nourishing and inspiring and reassuring.
I have been writing for a long time, but felt stuck with regards to inspiration. The course gave me practical tips to move forward and develop a well of inspiration. Also I had felt quite low about being stuck, and Kate's course really lifted me up.
The Dare to Dream course was something every writer should do!
I always enjoy Pamela's presentations. She anticipates the frequently asked questions and tailors her presentation to address the common misconceptions.
I can use the information immediately to support my writing.
I always find your seminars helpful. Pamela's style makes it easy to follow her.
Whilst I have a long way to go in my learning, I was pleased to see I was on the right track in my thoughts on flashbacks and memories.
Well worth the time and expense. Keep up the good work.
Like the dual timelines seminar, I appreciated the focus first on why and when to use memories and flashbacks and then the technical insights about tense and starting and stopping them (i.e., flagging the move to a different time and then the return to the present). It is very helpful to be given (as we were in both seminars) criteria for making choices about using these devices. This is of huge practical assistance as a learner writer.
The course has given me a roadmap, together with the dual timelines seminar, for navigating my planned story, which covers two people 100 years apart who each have pasts of significance that influence their presents (as well as the past character influencing the present character).
I recommend the AWC all the time whenever I am asked about my writing. What I say is that: when I first planned to write a novel, I thought that as a lifelong lover of reading and a proficient professional writer in my career, these skills would be easy to translate to creative writing. While these help, the AWC courses have taught me that there is science and art to creative writing. AWC's courses share the technicalities, practicalities, joy and invention of writing in ways that are equipping me with the skills and confidence to meet my goal of writing the story in my head.
Helped with my writer's block as I now know where I am going with my next 30,000 words! Where to use memory, flashback and dual timelines in plot formation.
It's now clearer how much impact the use of tense has on writing. There's a lot more to using tense than I realised!
I'd definitely recommend attending Focus On sessions because they deliver information on writing techniques in bite-size pieces, allowing us to absorb and practise it before learning more.
