The Children’s Book Council of Australia today announced its picks for Short List and Notables 2015 – and we’re pleased to say that some familiar names popped out.
Congratulations to two Australian Writers’ Centre presenters who have made the list – with our Writing Picture Books presenter Judith Rossell one of the six short-listed Young Readers titles for her illustrated young novel Withering-by-Sea: a Stella Montgomery Intrigue (ABC Books, Harper Collins Publishers). This book has been doing the opposite of withering lately, appearing on a bunch of penned-podiums of late. Well done Judith!
Meanwhile, short-listed in the Eve Pownall Award for Information Books is presenter Pamela Freeman for her work, Mary’s Australia: How Mary Mackillop Changed Australia (Black Dog Books, Walker Books Australia). Pamela teaches so many courses with us – including Creative Writing Stage 1, Write Your Novel, Advanced Fiction Techniques and Fantasy, Science Fiction and More!
Also making an appearance is Magazine and Newspaper Writing Stage 1 presenter and co-host of our podcast, Allison Tait – scoring a Notable nod in the Young Readers category for Mapmaker Chronicles: Race to the End of the World (Hachette Australia). Her book has also popped up on a few other lists, including the recent shortlisting on Readings Children’s Book Prize 2015.
Congratulations to our clever children’s book writing presenters! So if you’re looking for some great titles for the young readers in your life, you can see the entire list of short listed and notables here.
