2 Hours to Scrivener Power with Natasha Lester
Scrivener for Mac is a powerful and easy-to-use program that has become a must-have for authors and long-form writers all over the world. Whether you are writing an epic fantasy or non-fiction book, Scrivener is ideal because it has been custom-built for authors. Many authors will only write their manuscripts in Scrivener – instead of Word – because it’s so much easier to arrange information, move chapters around, develop characters, visualise your narrative arc, keep track of timelines and plot your work.
In this two-hour video course, you’ll learn how to use Scrivener for Mac so it can transform your writing process. Many authors find that once they understand how to use the program’s essential features, it helps their creativity flow. Sure, a computer program won’t write the novel for you! But it will make the process a whole lot easier.
This course is all about showing you which parts of Scrivener for Mac are the most important for you to learn to make your writing process faster, more enjoyable and more efficient.
“I found the convenience and flexibility of learning at my own pace very enjoyable. Before enrolling in this course I attempted to use Scrivener's tutorial and found it overwhelming. Don't waste time phaffing about trying to figure out Scrivener on your own. Just do it!”
– Anne Hayes
“I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner! It was fantastic. Although I've used Scrivener for a couple of projects, I knew I wasn't using it to its full potential. Now, after just two hours, I am blown away at how many useful features it has, and how it's going to be an absolute game changer for my writing process. Natasha delivers the course in a manner that is concise and easy to follow. She shows you the basics and then moves towards more advanced features without overwhelming you with unnecessary detail.”
– Jodi Gibson
“Before I started The Jade Lily, I knew that it was based during the Second World War. I did the 2 Hours to Scrivener Power course through the Australian Writers’ Centre. The kinds of books I write have a dual time frame. Scrivener really helped me map those dates. I could colour code these, so it was very clear. I found Scrivener very useful for laying out
the line of my plot.”
– Kirsty Manning
“This course is a great resource to get you properly started on Scrivener. While Scrivener rocks, it takes some time to master. The videos and handouts are easy to work through and a great resource afterwards.”
– Pip Brennan
This updated version of the 2 Hours to Scrivener Power course uses the new Scrivener 3 for Macs. If you have an older version of Scrivener, we recommend making sure you’ve upgraded to Scrivener 3 before you start this course as many of the menu items are different between versions. Plus, we cover many of Scrivener’s super-useful new features in the course including the threaded corkboard which allows you to keep track of individual story threads, subplots or timeframes; the linguistic focus which helps you overview the kind of language you are using (or overusing!); the centred outliner which helps you build your manuscript up from an outline or create an outline from your manuscript; plus project and document bookmarks which are a new and very handy new way of managing and quickly accessing your research documents and images.
This course is for anyone who would like to streamline and organise their writing. If you’re in the process of writing a novel, screenplay, or any other long-form creative work, this is for you.
This course focuses purely on the most important features you should use to streamline your writing. There is much, much more to the program, but this course will cover the essentials so you can get writing with confidence.
The good news is that you can use the free trial version of Scrivener to do the course. The trial version has the full functionality of Scrivener and gives you 30 days of use.
Or you can purchase Scrivener here.
Natasha uses Scrivener on a Mac so all of her videos feature Scrivener on a Mac. This course does not feature the Windows interface. This course does not support Windows at all
In just a couple of minutes (or less!) you can easily import your Word document into Scrivener. One of the course videos shows you how to do this.
This is one of AWC’s 35+ “self-paced” online courses. But what does that mean? Allow us to explain:
Natasha Lester is an award-winning author of historical novels. Her latest novel is The Disappearance of Astrid Bricard, a gripping homage to women and fashion. Her other previous novels include The Three Lives of Alix St Pierre, a fascinating tale that braids espionage and fashion in World War II Europe, The Riviera House, a lush, engrossing and deeply moving story of the brave women who worked against the Nazis, The Paris Secret, a sweeping story of bravery and love set during World War II, The French Photographer (or The Paris Orphan in the US), about a female photojournalist in Paris during the Second World War, and The Paris Seamstress, which is set in the male-dominated world of 1940s New York fashion. Natasha's other novels include A Kiss from Mr Fitzgerald, If I Should Lose You, What is Left Over, After, and Her Mother's Secret. Fed up with using Word to keep everything organised, she decided to get familiar with Scrivener – and hasn’t looked back!
Knowing how much easier it is to learn with real-life examples, Natasha created 2 Hours to Scrivener Power using her work in progress novel.
